Yonex VCORE vs. EZONE 8th Gen: Spin vs. Power

Yonex VCORE vs. EZONE 8th Gen: Spin vs. Power

Yonex's two flagship racquet lines have very different personalities on the court. The VCORE 8th Generation is Yonex's spin racquet, built to grab the ball and send it back with heavy topspin. The EZONE 8th Generation is Yonex's power line, built to feel plush and forgiving while still hitting with authority. Both come in 98 and 100 head sizes, and picking between them starts with knowing what you are looking for. If you are still working out the fundamentals of what to look for in a new frame, our tennis racquet buying guide is a good place to start.

VCORE 8th Gen

Crisp. Aerodynamic. Built for maximum spin access at every level.

EZONE 8th Gen

Plush. Forgiving. Built for easy power and a comfortable, controlled ride.

VCORE 8th Gen: Spin Access Granted

Yonex built the 8th generation VCORE to be its most advanced spin racquet yet, shipping globally with a bold promise: spin access granted for players at every level. The 100 and 98 sit at the heart of the range. If you want the full lineup, including the other head sizes and lengths, the VCORE 8th Generation review covers those in detail.

  • 2G-Namd Flex Force graphite construction paired with a Servo Filter, giving the frame improved flex and snapback for more precise feedback on every shot.
  • VDM (Vibration Dampening Mesh) built into the handle to cut down on unwanted vibration.
  • Open 16x19 string pattern across both the 100 and 98, designed to let the strings move freely and grab the ball for maximum spin.

On tour, the VCORE is used by Elena Rybakina, along with Brandon Nakashima and Joao Fonseca. If your game is built around heavy topspin, working the ball up and over the net with margin, and shaping shots aggressively from the baseline, the VCORE identity is built around that style. EZONE 8th Gen: Power and Comfort

The EZONE is Yonex's best-selling line, and the 8th generation doubles down on the plush, easy-power feel the line is known for. Both the 100 and 98 use a new mould with a softer flex and a more stable, higher swing weight, giving stronger players an EZONE that reins in its power with control and feel.

  • MINOLON dampening technology, a first for the EZONE line, for a plush feel Yonex compares to the DR feel of past generations.
  • 2G-Namd Speed graphite construction paired with VDM for a stable, comfortable ride.
  • 16x19 string pattern across both the 100 and 98, tuned for easy access to spin without sacrificing the line's core power identity.

Both EZONE 8th Gen models run stiffer than their VCORE counterparts, but VDM (Vibration Dampening Mesh) built into the handle absorbs unwanted vibration at the source, so the higher flex numbers do not translate into a harsh feel on court. The EZONE still plays easy and comfortable, even with that added stiffness working in the frame's favor for stability. The 98 gets an extra assist from Yonex's Isometric head shape, which squares off the frame to open up a larger sweet spot, helping the smaller head play more forgiving than its size alone would suggest.

On tour, the EZONE is used by Jessica Pegula, Ben Shelton, Casper Ruud, and Nick Kyrgios, along with Belinda Bencic and Madison Keys. If you want a racquet that feels easy to swing and comfortable on the arm while still hitting with pace, the EZONE identity is built around that. VCORE 100 vs. EZONE 100

Both 100-square-inch frames share the same head size, length, weight, and string pattern on paper. The difference comes down to flex and swing weight: the VCORE 100 runs a lower, plusher flex rating for a more responsive, spin-forward feel, while the EZONE 100 runs stiffer with a lower swing weight, favoring easy, forgiving power over outright spin. For a closer look at either racquet on its own, see our VCORE 100 review or our EZONE 100 review.

VCORE 98 vs. EZONE 98

The 98s tell a similar story. Weight and length match up exactly between the two, but the VCORE 98 carries a lighter swing weight with a softer flex rating for a snappier, more spin-oriented response, while the EZONE 98 carries more mass in the swing with a stiffer flex, giving it a more stable, controlled, power-first feel at net and from the baseline. Both share the same open string pattern, so your string choice ends up doing a lot of the work in shaping how either frame ultimately plays. If you want help picking the right setup, our guide to choosing tennis strings walks through it. For a closer look at either racquet on its own, see our VCORE 98 review or our EZONE 98 review.

Which One Should You Buy?

If your game runs on heavy topspin and you want a racquet that rewards an aggressive, fast swing, the VCORE is built for that. The 100 gives you a bigger margin for error while still accessing that spin, and the 98 tightens things up for a player who wants more precision without giving up the VCORE's core identity.

If you want a racquet that feels plush and forgiving while still hitting with real pop, the EZONE is the better fit. The 100 leans into easy power for players who want a bigger, more forgiving frame, while the 98 adds stability and control for a stronger player who wants that same comfortable feel with more precision behind it.
