Elina Svitolina began playing tennis at the age of 5 when she was introduced to the sport. Her family was no stranger to sports as her father, Mikhaylo, was former wrestler and her mom, Olena, was a former competitive rower. Her older brother, Yulian, first started playing tennis, and around the same time Elina became interested in the sport. She moved to Kharkiv when she was 13 years of age to train and further development her tennis game. As a 15 year old she won the Girls Singles French Open title, and reached her first professional ITF Singles final in Kharkiv the same year. She rose quickly in the WTA rankings capturing her first WTA Singles title in 2013 at the Baku Cup, then defending her title in 2014 and reaching the Semifinals of the Wuhan Open later that same year. Elina is continuing to dominate the game today reaching the Australian Open Quarterfinals twice (2018 & 2019, French Open Quarterfinals twice (2015 & 2017), Wimbledon Semifinals once (2019), US Open Semifinals once (2019), and 6 Premier-5 WTA Tournament titles. She established her very own foundation in 2018 to help encourage children through the sport of tennis how to work hard, have self discipline, and live life to the fullest. Her favorite surfaces to play on are hard and clay courts. Her hobbies include reading, learning about business/economics, and diving. Her favorite artist is Eminem and is currently dating ATP Pro Gael Monfils.
