Stan the Man began playing at age 8, and started playing international junior events at the age of 14. Wawrinka has German and Swiss citizenship, but represents his home country of Switzerland in the Davis Cup alongside teammate and long-time friend Roger Federer. His parents live in Switzerland, running a farm that employ and support handicapped people. Wawrinka has 3 siblings, all of which teach tennis. As a junior he won Roland Garros and has continued his winning ways into adulthood with French Open, Australian Open and US Open titles. He is best known for his powerful one handed backhand that he can place anywhere on the court. Stan enjoys watching movies, listening to music and is a fan of the Lausanne ice hockey club. He has a daughter named Alexia.
