Sorana Mihaela Cirstea was introduced to tennis by her mother, Liliana, at age 4. She is a powerful baseline player that likes to go for winners and covers the court swiftly. Sorana was a top ten junior player with several titles on the ITF Junior Circuit. In 2006 she turned professional and ended the year looking up. In 2007 she reached her first WTA final at the Budapest Grand Prix and in 2008 claimed her first WTA title at Tashkent defeating Sabine Lisicki. Sorana continued her success in 2009 reaching the quarterfinals of the French Open, third round at Wimbledon and third round of the US Open. Although troubled by injuries over the years, she continues fighting back to reach her ultimate goal of becoming a top ten WTA player. Her favorite cities are New York and London because there are lots of things to do. In her spare time she enjoys playing sports, going shopping, watching movies, reading and doing crosswords.
