Sofia Anna Kenin, also known as Sonya, was born in Moscow, Russia and moved to the US shortly after. She started playing tennis at the age of 5 with her long-time coach and father Alex. At an early age she started doing advanced training with Rick Macci and later with Nick Bollettieri. After having a dominant junior tennis career, she turned professional in 2017 and hasn't looked back since. That same year she broke into the top 150 rankings getting a wild card into the 2017 US Open and reaching the 3rd round before losing to her idol Maria Sharapova. In 2019, her success continued as she captured two WTA Doubles title in Auckland and Beijing as well as three WTA Singles title in Hobart, Mallorca, and Guangzhou. This same year she reached the Semifinals in Cincinnati and Toronto, and reached the 4th round at the French Open. In her spare time she enjoys watching movies, listening to music, traveling and hanging out with friends.
