Nicknamed Misha, Kecmanovic left Serbia with his aunt at age 13 to train in Bradenton at the IMG Academy. Both his mother and father are doctors, and he was first taught tennis by his grandfather at age 6. Kecmanovic loves the hard court surface and likes to open up the court with his big forehand. He speaks English, German, and Serbian, and he grew up idolizing Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer. Kecmanovic has been a mainstay in the top 50, but as a junior he actually finished number 1 in the world.
