Maria Sakkari is a Greek phenom that started playing tennis at age 6. She is the daughter of Angelikí Kanellopoúlou who was a former top 50 tennis player and was introduced to tennis through her parents. At the age of 18, she moved to Barcelona to train. She has stated that her favorite shot is serve while her favorite surfaces are hard and clay. Some of the players she looks up to are Serena Williams, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer. While her first two attempts to become a part of the WTA Tour were unsuccessful, on her third attempt she didn't just debut in the WTA Tour but she also debuts at the majors and had passing qualifications at US Open. From there she has been in multiple competitions from the Australian Open, French Open and has reached the top 20 in 2020.
