Michael Mackenzie Lowe McDonald, also known as Mackie, started playing tennis at the age of 3 with his father, Michael. He was coached as a young child by Rosie Bareis, then by former top 10 player Wayne Ferreira at age 11. His sister, Dana, was a gymnast at UCLA and eventually he went on to play at UCLA from 2014-16. In 2016 he had a break out year winning the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships before deciding to turn pro. In March of 2017 at the BNP Paribas Open he was awarded the Oracle US Tennis Award. He idolized former UCLA men's basketball coach John Wooden, tennis champion Roger Federer, and NBA superstar legend Kobe Bryant growing up. His favorite teams are the UCLA Bruins, San Francisco 49ers, San Francisco Giants and Golden State Warriors.
