His grandmother taught his older sister tennis, and Jiri soon followed. At the age of 15, he began training in Prostejov under the tutelage of former tennis pro Michal Navratil. In 2022, Lehecka qualified for the Australia Open and made his Grand Slam debut in the main draw. He quickly rose through the ranks in 2023, reaching the 4th round in Wimbledon and later entering the top 30 when he ranked No. 29 in August that year. The start of 2024 marked his first ATP title, defeating Sebastian Korda and Jack Draper to win the 2024 Adelaide International to break into the top 25 in January.
