Fernando Verdasco Carmona began playing tennis at age four with his father, Jose, on the two hard courts in their backyard. In 2009 he reached a career-high No. 7 with a career-best Semifinal showing at the Australian Open. He posted back-to-back wins over No. 4 Murray and No. 6 Tsonga before falling in an epic five-set marathon to countryman and World No. 1 Nadal. Verdasco played the longest singles match in tournament history (5:14) and afterwards broke into the Top 10 for the first time at No. 9. His favorite destinations for fun are Miami and Las Vegas, and his favorite soccer team is Real Madrid. In 2017 he married his wife Ana and now has a son named Miguel.
