Elise Mertens continued the Belgian tennis tradition of Kim Clijsters and Justine Henin when she achieved her career high ranking of 12 on November 26, 2018. Mertens is also a talented doubles player who achieved a high doubles ranking of #2 in the world on September 9, 2019. Elise and partner Aryna Sabalenka won the 2019 US Open doubles title. Mertens displays incredible timing from the back of the court and she relies on rock solid groundstrokes and mental toughness to win matches. Her best grand slam singles result was back at the Australian Open in 2019 where she reached the semifinals. She just recently made her second consecutive US Open quarterfinal.
