Denis was born in Kiev, Ukraine and moved to Virginia when he was a 1-year-old. He began playing tennis at age 7 since his brother, Nikita, played tennis as well. At 13 years of age he started homeschooling out of the Junior Tennis Champions Center (JTCC) in College Park, MD and focusing on high level tennis. After reaching a junior ranking of world number 3 and reaching the finals of the 2010 Boys' US Open Championship, he decided to turn pro. In 2015 he showed much promise making it to the 4th round of Wimbledon beating Pablo Cuevas, Alexander Zverev and Santiago Giraldo in the process. Now he splits time training in Florida and Virginia. His favorite surface is hard and his dream opponent is Andre Agassi.
