Description

Spin with teeth. Control with purpose.

The Wilson Defyer 98 Pro v1 Tennis Racquet combines heavy topspin production with the pinpoint control competitive players demand. A 98 sq. in. head, 16x20 string pattern, and 10.8 oz. unstrung weight gives aggressive baseliners a tour-caliber frame built to load up, rip through the ball, and still place shots exactly where they're needed.

The Torq Shaft's sculpted, tapered design generates leverage and stability through the swing, letting players drive heavy spin without sacrificing directional precision. Up top, the Airfoil Bumper cuts drag to boost head speed, and Parallel Drilling opens up a more forgiving string bed with a larger sweet spot. The DirectConnect carbon fiber handle improves torsional stability and ball feel from first contact to follow-through.

Torq Shaft: Sculpted shafts deliver leverage and stability for heavy, penetrating groundstrokes with an ergonomic outside shaft for two-handed loading.

Airfoil Bumper + Parallel Drilling: Reduced drag for faster head speed, paired with a more consistent, forgiving string bed and expanded sweet spot.

DirectConnect Handle + Click & Go: Carbon fiber handle connects directly to the end cap for improved torsional stability, feel, and easy bumper replacement.

Expert Review

The control end of Wilson's new Defyer line. A stable, connected 98 that holds its line against heavy hitting and gives a flatter, stronger player control and off-center forgiveness that used to be a trade-off.

Great for: Stronger players who want control and a stable platform against heavy incoming pace. Its resistance to twisting means even when you do not perfectly center the ball, so it forgives more than a 98 usually does. Spin + Control!

Not ideal for: Players who want easy free power and a large, forgiving head. Those players should look at the Defyer 100, which packs more punch and more margin.

Great addition to the Wilson line!

"Still need more time to fully determine how I feel about this racquet. Definitely very fast swinging given that most of the mass is in the throat. I feel that this racquet needs a little bit of weight at 12, 3 and 9 o'clock to give it more swingweight and stability. You need to swing out with full swings to maximize this racquet and to create depth/pace on your shot. Paint is very durable and the glossy red color is pretty impressive to see in person. This racquet appears to be more suited for a Blade player who wants more pop, spin and net clearance."

Review for Wilson Defyer 98

"I have demoed the Defyer and will ordering a couple. I have been using the current Yonex Ezone 98 Tour. There is a 10 gram difference so I had to add some weight to 3 and 9 and also the handle. At the same time I demoed the new Blade 98, 16x19. While the Blade had a little more control it doesn’t have the spin or power as the Defyer. For me the Defyer is closer to the Ezone then the Blade. I feel that the DNA in the Defyer has some Aero, Blade, and Ezone. It is powerful and plush as the Ezone, has spin as the Aero, and some of the control of the Blade. In stock form I felt I was able to get pushed around a little so adding weight is recommended. Overall a great racket to switch too if you want a combination of three of the rackets I mentioned."
