I taught tennis for 15 years or so (who's counting?) after playing junior tennis and in college. I am playing more doubles these days than singles, though singles is my favorite, because I like to run. Fall takes a while to arrive in central Texas, but it does make dressing for the courts challenging. Here are my gear favorites:

Big and Bulky sweatshirts don't do it for me in cold weather, so I need something with good cuffs that will stop at my wrists. I love the crossover appeal of the Nike Court Heritage Jacket. My favorite color is green, and I am a sucker for the Nike heritage logo. The jacket is not too thick or too thin, and soft to the touch. I also love the stand-up collar when zipped up for a little extra warmth.

If you are looking for the perfect base layer, the ASICS Actibreeze short-sleeve top is a winner. The top fits on the slim side, and it is very thin, which means it is easy to throw a long-sleeve shirt or sweatshirt on top of it. The material dries quickly, and I also use it for medium to long runs.

For footwear, there are so many great choices these days, but I love the New Balance CT-Rally v2. Fresh Foam delivers a dampened response, which is not pillow soft, and it still feels connected to the court. The shoe is very durable and seems to get more and more comfortable the more I wear it.

I was a casual tennis player when I was younger and have enjoyed an evening out with friends on occasion. While I might not be the best at it, I do enjoy the exercise and catching up with some of my favorite people.

In general, I tend to run a lot colder than most, so I always need a few layers. When playing, I need a good jacket or hoodie to warm up in, then after a little while, I can move to a long sleeve or switch out into a short sleeve top. My favorite jackets and long-sleeve tops are anything with thumb holes. I would then pair these tops with a pair of stylish leggings, preferably ones with pockets.

The first item I will highlight is the BloqUV Women's Tennis Hoodie JacketThis jacket has the thumbholes that help keep my sleeves down and offer a little extra warmth while I warm up. It also has a full zip, which is something that I look for. After I've warmed up a bit, I want to be able to quickly shed my top layer and get back into the game.

The next top I would choose to wear would be Thrive Societe Women's Novelty Stitch Up Tennis HoodieAlthough this is still a hoodie, it is lightweight and slightly cropped, with an airy style. Overall, I love clothes like this because they help keep me warm while also keeping me cool; it's the perfect in-between for a fall or winter match.

And finally, my go-to for fall and winter bottoms will always be leggings. The Nike Women's One High-Waisted 7/8 Leggings with PocketsNot only are pockets a must in leggings, but I love black leggings because they go with everything. I can style them with any color top, and the 7/8 length also pairs nicely with the Thrive Societe Novelty Hoodie by both keeping me warm while also allowing me to feel a breeze as the match heats up.

I'm what you might call an "opportunistic" tennis player; I play infrequently on my own, but I'll never turn down an invitation to play. In other words, I mostly get crushed by my cousins who played competitively during their high school and college years, but I still enjoy every moment. They've even dragged me into pickleball recently as well. Because of that, I make sure to keep some tennis essentials on hand so I'll be ready for a match any time.

This fall, I've enjoyed the On Courtside long sleeve polo. It has a versatile style that feels refined without being pretentious, so it's great for tennis matches and casual settings alike. Despite being designed for chilly weather, the shirt nonetheless doesn't feel stuffy to wear and in fact the piqued fabrics are quite easy to move around in.

The Wilson Courtglide tennis shoes make a great companion for the shirt, I especially enjoy how the green accents provide great complementary coloring with dark clothing. For the price point, the Courtglide provides near-unbeatable value, feeling great from the first step, needing practically no break-in period.

Topping off my personal staff pick is the Head Legend 2025 Pro X backpack, a sleek and compact bag that's incredibly versatile for all sorts of traveling. The racquet compartment just as easily holds pickleball paddles as well as provides a secure spot to hold my laptop if I'm making a trip out of town.

Hey Y'all!

I've played tennis for almost 20 years now. I grew up watching Federer and Nadal duke it out on the big stages. What I loved so much about that era of tennis was the style, especially the off-court gear.

I hate being cold while playing tennis, so I always make sure to layer up. With the seasons changing, you'll want to bundle up so you can play comfortably without worrying about the weather. Here are my picks for the 2025/2026 Fall season:

Wilson outerwear

The Wilson Grand Slam Tennis Jacket & Pants are just the thing to stand out this holiday season. Ideal for warm-ups or colder days. What I love most about this jacket and these pants is that they look great for off-court styling. I love the design of these because, while they are great for playing tennis in, I can totally see them passing as upscale athletic wear for any occasion.

Get yourself an early Christmas gift with the Nike Zoom Vapor 12 Tennis Shoes. Personally, I think these are the best shoes on the market. They are specifically designed for speed and comfort, which is exactly why the best player in the world wears them, Carlos Alcaraz.

This year, visit your family and friends in style. The Wilson Laver Cup 2025 RF Practice 6 Pack Tennis Duffel Bag is the sleekest bag around. Not only will it fit all your travel necessities, but it'll fit a couple of racquets too... the real priority. If you're like me and like to travel, you can't leave your tennis racquet behind. This is an awesome way to make sure you can travel and play tennis anywhere in the world!
