Madison Keys first became interested in tennis when she saw one of her idols, Venus Williams, playing on TV. She was introduced to the sport by her parents and took a quick loving to it. At the age of 9, she became a part of the Chris Evert Academy in Boca Raton, Florida and her coaches regards her as a prodigy believing she could win a major title. Keys turned pro on her 14th birthday and quickly showed her potential by becoming one of the youngest players to win a WTA Tour level match a few months later. She also won a World Team Tennis exhibition set against then grand slam champion Serena Williams later that year. Keys first cracked the top 100 of the WTA rankings in 2013 at the age of 17, and had her first big breakthrough at a major in early 2015 when she reached the Women's Singles Semifinal at the Australian Open. Keys is rapidly improving, and came very close to her first grand slam victory in 2017 making it to the finals of the US Open. At the 2025 Australian Open, Keys won her first Grand Slam title, defeating the world's No. 1 and No.2 players Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka on her road to victory. This achievement made her the oldest first-time AO winner and the player with the longest gap between their grand slam finals.
