Lesia started playing tennis at age 6 when her parents introduced her to the sport. She moved to Kiev at age 17 to study Physical Education and Sports in Ukraine. In 2015 she captured her first WTA Singles title in Istanbul and reached the Quarterfinals of the BNP Paribas Open as well as the Rogers Cup. In 2018 she captured her fourth WTA Singles title in Acapulco and reached the US Open Women's Singles Quarterfinals. Her favorite shot is her backhand and her favorite tournaments are the Australian Open, Wimbledon and Madrid. She admires Martina Hingis for her playing style. She speaks Russian, Ukrainian and English.
