Beatriz Haddad Maia (born May 30, 1996) began playing tennis at the age of 5 in São Paulo, Brazil, coming from a tennis family where both her mother, Lais Scaff Haddad, and grandmother, Arlette Scaff Haddad, were successful tennis players in Brazil. Haddad Maia peaked at No. 15 in the ITF junior rankings and reached the doubles finals at the French Open twice as a junior, finishing runner-up in 2012 with Montserrat González and 2013 with Doménica González. She made her WTA Tour debut at the 2013 Brasil Tennis Cup in Florianópolis as a wildcard, scoring her first main-draw win against Hsu Chieh-yu. In 2017, Haddad Maia earned her first Grand Slam main-draw appearance through qualifying at the French Open and reached her first WTA singles final at the Korean Open. She achieved breakthrough success in 2022 when she became the first woman to win Nottingham and Birmingham back-to-back, claiming her first two WTA singles titles, and went on to reach the final at Toronto, her first WTA 1000 final. At the 2022 Australian Open, Haddad Maia reached the doubles final with Anna Danilina, making her only the third Brazilian woman to reach a Grand Slam final. Her career highlight came at the 2023 French Open when she advanced to the semifinals, becoming the first Brazilian woman to reach the WTA Top 10 rankings.
