Sports runs in the Kalinskaya family's veins, with both of Anna's parents being professional badminton players and her brother, a soccer player. Anna started tennis at the age of 5, spending her summers at her grandma's home in Dnipro, Ukraine and attending the tennis academies there. She would later move to the United States at age 14 to pursue a career in tennis, making her WTA debut soon after at the 2014 Kremlin Cup. While she struggled to win major titles early in her WTA, her solid performances allowed a steady climb through the WTA rankings, breaking into the top 100 in 2019. That year proved to be one of Anna's first major breakthroughs, reaching her first semifinals at Washington, D.C., beating No.10 Sloane Stephens at the US Open, and winning her first doubles title at Prague. Her next stride would come post-pandemic lockdowns, winning her first Challenger title in 2023 at Midland, then later breaking into the top 20 in 2024 after reaching her first WTA 1000 finals in Dubai.
