Novak Djokovic was born in Belgrade, Serbia to Srdjan and Dijana Djokovic, owners of a pizzeria and pancake restaurant. His father was a pro skier as well as an excellent football player and wanted Novak to originally become a football player or skier to follow in his footsteps. However, Novak excelled in tennis from an early age, making his pro debut at 16. Djokovic is one of only 6 players to finish more than four seasons ranked at World Number 1. He credits his family as his inspiration because of their support and says he wouldn’t be able to be where he is without their help. He married his wife Jelena in 2014 and has a son, Stefan, and a daughter Tara. He speaks Serbian, English, Italian, German, and French and idolized Pete Sampras growing up. Arguably the best tennis player of all time, the now 37-year-old has the record for the most major titles in ATP history (24).
