Wimbledon Players to Follow

Wimbledon is underway and players are taking the court. Among the top contenders for the men are Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, John Isner, Frances Tiafoe, and one of the UK’s favorites, Andy Murray. On the women’s side of the draw, we see big names like Serena Williams, Simona Halep, Amanda Anisimova, Petra Kvitova, and Jessica Pegula. While everyone is demonstrating their passion in all-white fashions, they are looking to make it to the finals where they hope to take center court this centennial year. 2022 marks 100 years of Centre Court at Wimbledon. With a total of 256 players, 128 on the men’s side and 128 on the women’s side, there is a lot of tennis going on. Stefanos Tsitsipas

Ranked No. 5 in the world, and seeded No. 4 at Wimbledon, Tsitsipas is hot. He just won in Mallorca, Spain defeating Roberto Bauista Agut on grass. He was recently named ATP Player of the week and is looking for his first Grand Slam victory.

Hubert Hurkacz

Hurkacz is overdue some victories. He just beat Daniil Medvedev in Halle, Germany in the finals, claiming his first title of the year. He has four other titles under his belt, but is looking to add more. This would be his first Grand Slam title for the Polish player.

Casper Ruud

Another player to keep an eye out for is Casper Ruud. He earned the #3 seed at Wimbledon, and is currently ranked No. 6 in the world. Although he lost in the first round at Wimbledon in 2019 and 2021, he is playing at the top of his game. Last month he won the ATP tournament in Geneva. He beat Joao Sousa in three sets. He also made it to the final at Roland Garros and the ATP Masters 1000 in Miami earlier in the year.

Taylor Fritz

Arguably one of the most talented young men on the tour, Taylor Fritz is making headway towards his first Grand Slam title. The American superstar is ranked No. 14 in the world and is seeded No. 11 at Wimbledon. He has earned two of his three titles recently, one in Eastbourne on grass, the other at Indian Wells.

Cameron Norrie

You can bet the crowd will go wild when Cameron Norrie takes the court. After all, he is one of Great Britain's most beloved players. Currently ranked No. 12, Norrie experienced victory in Lyon last month claiming his first clay title. He beat Alex Molcan of Slovakia 6-3, 6-7 (3), 6-1. This was Norrie’s second ATP title this year. Serena Williams

Serena is at it again. After a long hiatus due to injuries, the Queen of the Court has returned to Wimbledon. Williams slipped on the grassy court last year during this tournament. She went down with a leg injury during her first-round match against Aliaksandra Sasnovich. The 40-year-old pro is on the hunt for her 24th career title after taking nearly a year off.

Iga Swiatek

Ranked No. 1 in both the world and at Wimbledon, Iga Swiatek has brought her game to the grass. She is still hot from winning Rome, where she beat Ons Jabeur in straight sets, and celebrated her 21st birthday. Swiatek is no stranger to the big show. Earlier this year she won Roland Garros by defeating Coco Gauff, again, in straight sets. Now she just needs a little creativity and a whole lot of confidence to get to the finals at this prestigious tournament.

Ons Jabeur

Undeniably likeable, Ons Jabeur is making history for her country. She is Tunisia’s highest-ranked tennis female athlete ever. Jabeur is currently ranked No. 2 in the world. She is seeded No. 3 at Wimbledon and making headway to the top spot after her recent victory over Belinda Bencic in Berlin, Germany. Jabeur also made it to the finals in Rome last month, where she lost to Swiatek 2-6, 2-6. The 27-year-old is a force to be reckoned with and has a wicked drop-shot.

Emma Raducanu

England’s beloved pro, Emma Raducanu is overdue another Grand Slam title. Although it’s been almost a year since she won the U.S. Open, she has been battling some injuries. She recently retired in Nottingham due to pain in her side. The All-England crowd will attempt to discount any doubts by cheering as loud as they can.
