The Extreme Is Back: HEAD's 2026 Lineup Brings the Crisp Feel Players Missed

The HEAD Extreme line has always had a clear identity: explosive topspin, easy power, and a bright yellow cosmetic that makes it one of the most recognizable frames on any court. The 2022 and 2024 versions drifted toward a softer, more muted feel that divided longtime Extreme players. For 2026, HEAD corrects course. Hy-Bor, an aerospace-grade material in the shaft, adds perceived stability and a more solid impact feel. Auxetic 2.0 in the frame geometry sharpens connection to the ball. The result is a lineup that returns to the crisp, powerful response the Extreme name built its reputation on, with better stability than any previous generation.

The 2026 Extreme family spans seven frames: the Extreme Pro, Extreme MP, Extreme MP XL, Extreme MP L, Extreme MP UL, Extreme TEAM, and Extreme Elite. Each model is built around a shared 16x19 string pattern and spin grommet system, with weight, head size, and length dialed to a specific type of player.

Watch: Extreme Pro, MP, and MP XL On-Court Review

Our staff put the three performance-tier Extreme models through their paces. The video covers on-court impressions with the Extreme Pro, Extreme MP, and Extreme MP XL. Read on for a full breakdown of every model in the lineup.

Extreme Pro 2026

Best for: Tournament & advanced players

At 10.8 ounces and 98 square inches, the Extreme Pro is the most control-oriented frame in the Extreme family. It asks more of the player than the MP, but it gives back better targeting and a heavier ball when you generate your own pace.

Hy-Bor reinforcement in the shaft is the most noticeable upgrade. Through the hitting zone, the frame feels more planted. Off-center strikes stay on course better than prior generations, and redirecting heavy incoming balls from the baseline is significantly easier. Auxetic 2.0 keeps you connected to the stringbed, giving you a clear read on where contact lands so you can fine-tune placement as rallies develop.

The 16x19 spin pattern and spin grommets let the strings snap back faster after ball contact. That translates directly to more revolutions and a sharper angle on deep topspin groundstrokes. Sound Grommets contribute the crisp, pop-on-impact acoustic feel the Extreme series is known for — and if you played the 2022 or 2024 versions, you'll notice it immediately. The muted quality of those frames is gone.

The Extreme Pro rewards players who swing through the ball with confidence. If you attack from the baseline and want to dictate pace while staying in control of spin, this is where the Extreme family starts for competitive play. Though there are tons of 98 square inch models at 10.8 ounces on the market, the Extreme Pro is among the easier 98 models to play.

Extreme MP 2026

Best for: Intermediate to advanced players

The Extreme MP is the most popular model in the lineup, and the 2026 version makes the strongest case yet for why. At 10.6 ounces with a 100-square-inch head, it sits in a sweet spot between accessibility and performance that a wide range of players can work with.

Hy-Bor in the shaft gives the MP a noticeably more solid feel than the 2024 version. You feel the difference most during exchanges where balls are coming in with pace: the frame holds its line rather than getting pushed around. Auxetic 2.0 adds feedback in the yoke and handle, letting you sense contact clearly and adjust between shots.

The 16x19 pattern paired with spin grommets is the engine of this racquet. Strings move more freely at contact, producing heavy topspin on groundstrokes and giving your serve more bite with less effort. Sound Grommets round out the feel with that signature crisp response.

On court, the MP gives you the pace and spin of an aggressive baseline frame without asking for the swing speed the Pro demands. It accelerates quickly and settles into a groove across all areas of the court. Players who felt the 2024 version was a little too soft will find the 2026 a welcome step back toward the punchy, responsive feel that made the Extreme MP a bestseller in the first place.

Extreme MP XL 2026

Best for: Advanced players wanting more leverage

The MP XL takes everything that works about the Extreme MP and extends it. At 27.5 inches, this is the longest frame in the Extreme family. That extra length translates to a faster arc through the swing, more reach on wide balls, and added natural pace on serves without any change in technique.

Hy-Bor shaft reinforcement keeps the extended frame from feeling loose or unstable at impact. The aerospace-grade material anchors the frame through contact, so you feel control even when you accelerate through the ball. Auxetic 2.0 in the frame geometry gives you precise feedback on contact, which matters more on an extended frame where off-center hits can feel amplified.

Spin grommets at key contact points amplify string movement for sharper angles, while Sound Grommets and semi-transparent grommets contribute to a clean, responsive impact sensation. The 16x19 pattern generates the same heavy topspin the MP is known for, but with more leverage behind every stroke.

The MP XL is built for baseline players who want to push opponents further back and put more pressure on serves. If you've ever felt like you needed just a bit more reach or pop and didn't want to change the frame you're comfortable with, the MP XL is exactly that option.
