Thomas John "Tommy" Paul began playing tennis at the age of 7, being introduced to the sport by his parents. He grew up playing in the Greenville clay courts, and as such became uncharacteristically adept at clay compared to the typical American player. Throughout his junior career, he was among the best in his class with a career high of rank No. 3. In 2015, he reached 2 junior Grand Slam finals, beating Taylor Fritz in the French Open boys' singles to win that title. He turned pro later that same year, making his Grand Slam debut at the 2015 US Open. Since turning pro, he's maintained a solid and consistent performance, making it at least to the third round if not the quarter finals of many tournaments he's played in. In 2021, he won fist first ATP title at the Stockholm Open, defeating Denis Shapovalov in the finals. His 2022 journey shows promise, making it to the third round in back-to-back events at the BNP Paribas Open and Miami Open. Tommy Paul's play style involves using a strong attacking forehand and footwork along the baseline, rushing to the net with speed as necessary. His favorite shot is the overhead and his favorite tournament is the US Open.
