Roger, Rafa, and Del Potro: Trendsetters Setting their Sights on the Australian Open

The dynamic duo of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal has been setting trends on the courts and off for years. As we move into this grand slam season it’s easy to see why they and fellow Nike sponsored pro player Juan Martin Del Potro have such an effect. Take a look at what El Toro, the Swiss Maestro, and Del Toro have in store for the upcoming Australian Open.

At last year’s Australian Open Federer lost in the semifinals to Andy Murray, and LLeyton Hewitt recently beat him out in Brisbane to take the Men’s Singles Title. But with a new racquet, new threads, new kicks, and even a new baby on the way, this may be Roger’s lucky year! Nike has certainly done its part to ensure that his clothes keep him as comfortable as possible while he’s at play with Dri-FIT fabric for sweat management and details like bonded seams to prevent skin irritation. The Nike Men’s Premier R F Tennis Polo in Night Factor will keep the grand slam champ cool and classy with a silicone screen back for the ultimate in climate control while the lightweight Gladiator 9 Inch Tennis Short in neutral Light Base Gray creates a subdued color palette. But before his matches he’ll make quite an entrance with the Premier Roger Federer Cover Up in a light crimson that matches his passion. This super soft piece features a 2-way zipper that can be adjusted as needed to enhance range of motion should he choose to wear it during play, and zippered hand pockets for secure gear storage. Of course we all admire his sense of style, but it’s his kicks that are getting so much attention right now, the newly released Nike Zoom Vapor 9.5 Tour, also in that light crimson we saw in the cover up. If you are one of the many who liked the Zoom Vapor 9, you’ll love the adaptive fit of the 9.5 and how well they allow you to make quick moves on court with their low profile.

Number one ranked Nadal had to withdraw from the last Aussie Open due to a stomach virus, but with a recent win over Gael Monfils for the title at the Qatar Open, El Toro is strong like bull and moving forward full force. He too has a new weapon, the Nike Lunar Ballistec that’s even lighter than his former Courtballistec and features strategically placed cushioning for better lift off and support. Will they serve him well in Melbourne? We shall see, but we do know he’ll show in his typical fashion, the newest Nike Rafa Tennis Crew in the bold Light Crimson and silver, plus a similar but shorter version of the Gladiator short Roger will be wearing, the Gladiator 7” tennis short in Base Grey. Where The Fed used his jacket to amp up his look, Rafa goes the other way with the newest Premier Rafa Jacket in neutral light base grey. This jacket continues the trend of the previous versions with mesh lining that provides excellent ventilation and a fit that allows for complete freedom of movement – not to mention hidden pockets and a drop back hem for added breathability. All of his pieces incorporate Dri-Fit fabrication, of course, and Nike quality construction with high performance fabrics so he can focus on his opponent without being distracted by his apparel.

Del Potro was an early upset at the 2013 Australian Open. He’s starting off the season ranked no. 5 in the world (that’s one spot ahead of the Fed!), so anything could happen. Like Rafa, he’ll be going collarless with the NIKE Men`s Power UV Tennis Crew in the red that’s so popular this year. This is a tee that everyone should have in their closet, not only for the comfortable fit and Dri-FIT fabrication, but the UV technology that Nike has incorporated for protection against the sun. He’ll also pair his shirt with the Gladiator shorts, choosing the plaid print of the NIKE Men`s Gladiator 10 Inch Plaid Tennis Short which offers the same high performance features that Rafa’s and Roger’s shorts offer, but in the stylish plaid print. His weapons of choice: the NIKE Men`s Air Max Cage Tennis Shoes Metallic Silver. These shoes are known for their combination of cushioning and stability that provide a comfortable ride. They also come with a 6-month outsole guarantee, so you can trust in their durability!
