Nicknamed "Shapo," this young Canadian started playing tennis at the age of 5 by his mother, Tessa. He was born in Israel, after his mother moved from the Soviet Union, and moved to Toronto when was 9 months old. He has made a great impact onto the ATP tour at an early age reaching the semi-finals of the 2017 ATP Masters 1000 Montreal tournament. For his break out season, he was named ATP Newcomer of the Year and ATP Most Improved Player of the Year both in 2017. His idol growing up was Roger Federer and he was able to warm up with Roger when he was 15 years old in Toronto. His favorite surface is grass and he loves to hit overheads. His favorite sports teams are the Toronto Maples Leafs and Toronto Raptors.
