Aryna started playing tennis at 6 years of age by accident when her father, Sergey, drove by the tennis courts and decided to give it a try. She began training at the National Tennis Academy in Minsk, Belarus when it opened in 2014 and in 2015 started competing in low-level professional events. She had early success in Fed Cup, but didn't breakthrough the WTA rankings until 2017 when she won her first round at Wimbledon and reached the singles final at the Tianjin Open. In 2018 Aryna won her first Premier 5 level tournament at the Wuhan Open and reached the Quarterfinals of the China Open eventually earning the WTA Newcomer of the Year Award. 2019 she made her Top 10 debut in singles and reached a world No. 2 ranking in doubles. By the end of the year she was able to capture 3 Singles titles in China, including the WTA Elite Trophy, and 3 Doubles titles, including the BNP Paribas Open, Miami Open and US Open, all with partner Elise Mertens. She spends her time off with family, catching up with friends, or reading. Her favorite book is “The Count of Monte Cristo” and her favorite movies are Titanic, Home Alone & Never Back Down.
