Wimbledon Preview

Wimbledon is a mere 2 weeks away. Some say that this grass court tournament is the most important major event of the entire calendar year! With its deep rooted traditions (all players required to wear white being the biggest) and rich history it certainly is the most important major. Men's Draw The way the field is looking on the men's side it can be anyone's tournament. The big hitting Americans Andy Roddick, John Isner, and Sam Querrey are expected to make runs deep into the tournament. However, this is where Roger Federer shines the most, he's won this tournament 6 times in the past 7 years, with his only upset coming in 2008 at the hands of Rafael Nadal. As defending champion he's expected to be a heavy favorite this time around. Do not leave Andy Murray out for the count, this is his homeground, he's still vying to become the first Brit to win the tournament in the open era, something the British people have been longing for. Though he's been on a slump since losing to Roger at the Australian Open earlier this year his game is still on par to compete with the top 3. Novak Djokovic is also in top form, look for him to make a run deep into the tournament but not past the quarterfinals. TE prediction: Champion: Andy Roddick Runner-Up: Roger Federer Semi-Finalist: Andy Murray Semi-Finalist: Novak Djokovic Women's Draw This is Venus and Serena Williams's tournament. In the last decade 8 out of 10 Wimbledon championships have been won by the duo. Venus winning in 2000-2001, 2005, and 2007-2008. Serena winning 2002-2003 and 2009. Only Maria Sharapova (2004) and Amelie Mauresmo (2006) have interrupted their streak of dominance. Look for Sharapova to come out with a vengeance and make a run deep into the second week. Serbian Ana Ivanovic, who's finally finding her game should also fare well here on the grass. The Belgian duo of Justine Henin and Kim Clijsters should also fare well here, making a run into the semi-finals and running into the road block that is the Williams sisters. TE Predictions: Champion: Serena Williams Runner-Up: Venus Williams Semi-Finalist: Kim Clijsters Semi-Finalist: Justine Henin
