Groundstrokes
The TFight 305 is a solid racquet for baseline counter punchers. I found it easy to swing form both wings and the light weight translated to good racquet head speed through the hitting zone. To me the 305 is a bit better suited to a topspin oriented game. Flat strokes don’t have quite the same depth as they do with heavier TFight models. However, I found it easy to vary the height if the ball on topspin strokes from both sides. This made it easy to control how deep into the court my ball was going during a neutral rally. I did feel that against bigger hitters, the 305 lets you play solid defense but doesn’t quite transition into an offensive weapon as easily as other frames due to the decreased mass of the frame. It’s nothing a bit of lead can’t help with. The 305 is part of the Tour Prepared section of the TFight line and mirrors the feel of the others in the line. Vibration is reduced on off center shots thanks to the silicone in the handle, resulting in a clean feel on contact with good feedback.
Volleys
Volleying with the 305 is a solid option. It is maneuverable at the net thanks to the lower weight and head light bias. It is easy to get the racquet turned around for reflex volleys. The 305 tends to keep volleys up a bit, making put away shots a bit more challenging; but it also helps keep you in the point when stretched out for shots or picking one up off your shoelaces. I didn’t quite get the bite on drop volleys that I did with others in the line. The 305 has solid feel on contact with volleys and exhibits solid directional control for hitting angle volleys.
Serves
The TFight 305 generates nice racquet head speed while serving, allowing you to flatten out serves when you want to be aggressive. Compared to other models, the 305 doesn’t quite have the same depth on serves, but it is adequate against all but the most aggressive returners. Slice serves stayed low with the 305 and I found good results when using a kick serve with the 305. I was able to get a nice high kick that I could land short and angled in the box or land a bit deeper. It was this variety that I felt complimented its performance in flat serving and really made it a more versatile weapon for serving. Directional control was great with the 305. The lighter weight and head light balance allows you to have great racquet head control during serving and I had no trouble going from down the T to out wide with my serves.
Comfort
The 305 shares the same comfort aspects as other TFights in the Tour Prepared segment. The silicone in the handle is effective at reducing vibration in the racquet. I also found that it had enough weight that I didn’t really over swing with it like I did the 295 variant. It doesn’t have the same flexibility of the TFight 315 but it is still a comfortable racquet overall and can be made even more so depending on the choice of string.
Overall
The TFight 305 is a great choice for baseline counter punchers who like to use spin. It produces solid topspin from the ground and is adept at keeping you in the point, even when you are playing defense. Its solid volleying capabilities give you the option to turn up the aggression on short balls and follow them in. It is a very versatile racquet overall, great for developing all court players as well as baseline grinders determined to keep themselves in every point.
