Benefits of using a control racquet

"Control" is not the best category name, because it implies whoever uses it will be granted a magic wand of control. This category has a prerequisite: you must be able to generate a fair amount of racquet head speed, and be able to repeat it. These frames are usually heavier than 11 ounces, and have thinner beams (<22 mm). Some of these racquets will have a dense string pattern (18 x 20) to provide less power and more feel for the ball. These days, "control" racquets come in all different head sizes, but the median is 95-98 square inches. If you are looking at racquets in this category they are often harder to maneuver, but are stable enough to handle high amounts of pace and spin.

  • Higher swing weight
  • Thinner beam and smaller head size
  • Less power and more feel
