Babolat is refreshing one of the most popular racquet families within the tennis industry this fall. The Pure Aero, formerly the AeroPro, has become just as huge as its mega-star endorser Rafael Nadal. The frame is widely used on both the WTA and ATP tours, but it has also become a favorite of consumers at multiple competitive levels. Once again, Babolat has a few versions to suite different game styles and abilities. They are available October 16.
The Pure Aero keeps the Aero Modular technology from the previous generations to aid users of all levels with increased racquet head speed. As with the 2015 Pure Aero, Babolat refined the grommets, and bumper guard for less wind drag and more racquet head speed. This year’s Pure Aero incorporates Babolat’s Cortex Pure Feel to make the response a little more arm friendly at contact. The tech comes from a partnership with SMAC, a company with long-standing ties to the aerospace industry. The marriage fits perfectly, as they specialize in shock and vibration reduction. SMACWRAP, a thin, viscoelastic rubber, has been placed at the 3 and 9 o’clock positions of the Pure Aero for outstanding feel and comfort.
Babolat is always innovating, and are introducing the CARBON PLY STABILIZER to improve stability. CPly Carbon was developed by Chomorat, a French industrial company, and added above the throat of the racquet for more precision and stability. FSI Spin incorporates an open string pattern with oblong shaped grommets for easier access to spin while the established Woofer grommet system enhances the interaction between the ball and strings.
Babolat has made an effort to make the Pure Aero line more comfortable at contact and hopefully a little easier on tender elbows and wrists. That being said, they kept the topspin-friendly response that players have come to know and love. If you thought previous versions were a little harsh, or jarring at contact, I encourage you to test the updated Pure Aero when it becomes available on October 16.
The Aero family will incorporate the Pure Aero, Pure Aero Team, and Pure Aero Liteat launch, with heavier versions to follow in later 2018 and 2019. See below for a breakdown of the frame specifications.
Babolat will also be refreshing the Pure Aero bag series: the Racket Holder X12, the Racquet Holder X6, and the Pure Aero Backpack. They will coincide with the bold and bright yellow colorway.
