GAMMA RZR 100 Tennis Racquet Review

With the inclusion of the RZR 100, Gamma adds a solid baseline performer to the line-up. The 100 square inch headsize, along with the low 302 swingweight and stiff flex of 74, provides plenty of power and access to spin for the modern player. Though out of my preferred spec range, the RZR 100 is one of Gamma’s best offerings.
Groundstrokes
From the baseline, I found the RZR 100 to slash through my strokes, allowing me to produce a ton of spin as I whipped through the ball. Topspin forehands, my favorite shot with this model, dipped aggressively into the court before kicking up at my opponent. I was also impressed with this frame’s ability to handle defensive shots on the top of the hoop. Due to the lightness of the RZR 100, I briefly struggled with my timing on the backhand, but once I dialed it in, I enjoyed hitting crazy crosscourt angles to open up the court. Flat drives up the line had plenty of pace, and I had no problem placing the ball while on offense.
Volleys
I didn’t have any issues getting the racquet on the ball, especially when it came to reflex volleys. The light weight of the frame allowed me to set up effortlessly. The sweetspot produced a clean feel on well-struck shots, however the frame felt unstable and metallic on off-center hits. The occasional net player won’t mind the feel of the frame, but net monsters and doubles players may prefer a more comfortable ride.
Serves
Like many of the other RZR models, the RZR 100 performed exceptionally well on serve. My spin serves had plenty of movement and break, and I was able to place my flat serves will plenty of speed. Though many of the RZR models worked well on flat serves, I noticed a distinct lack of kick on my second serves. However, the RZR 100 broke the trend, as kick serves with this frame exceeded my expectations. I was able to get as much kick as with my current frame, which created a ball that bounced over my opponent’s shoulders.
Overall
The RZR 100 is a great choice for an aggressive baseliner or baseline grinder that enjoys hitting with copious amounts of spin. Like many of the modern players’ frames on the market, the RZR is lacking in the comfort department. This issue can be addressed with the right string choice and minor customization (strategically placed lead tape). This frame can accommodate a wide range of ability levels, from beginner to advanced, but is best suited for 3.5 players and up.
